Heavy metal and hard rock were honored in the March 4th episode of “The Masked Singer”, as per theprp. The heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne was honored with several performances on the celebrity reality singing competition series, which was dubbed “Ozzfest night.” Black Sabbath‘s “Paranoid” and Ozzy‘s “Mama I’m Coming Home” and “Crazy Train” were performed, with Ozzy‘s daughter Kelly present. Incubus‘ “Drive” and Linkin Park‘s “One Step Closer” were also discussed. Naturally, both of the latter have attended “Ozzfest.” In addition to honoring one of the pioneers of heavy metal, this program provided some extra synergy because Sharon Osbourne just revealed that “Ozzfest” will make a comeback in 2027.

In 1968, guitarist Tony Iommi, drummer Bill Ward, bassist Geezer Butler, and singer Ozzy Osbourne established the English heavy metal band Black Sabbath in Birmingham. After changing their name from Polka Tulk Blues Band to Earth in 1969, the band became known for their occult themes, horror-inspired lyrics, and down-tuned guitars. In addition to being commercially successful, their first three albums—”Black Sabbath”, “Paranoid” (both 1970), and “Master of Reality” (1971)—are recognized as foundational works in the evolution of heavy metal. The band experimented with more avant-garde and experimental approaches on “Vol. 4” (1972), “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” (1973), “Sabotage” (1975), “Technical Ecstasy” (1976), and “Never Say Die!” (1978).

On January 2, 2019, the American reality singing competition television series The Masked Singer debuted on Fox. It is a part of the Masked Singer franchise, which started with the South Korean version of the show King of Mask Singer, in which celebrities sing songs while disguising their identities with face masks and full-body costumes. The show, which is hosted by Nick Cannon, features panelists who use hints given to them throughout each season to identify the names of the celebrities. Each episode features appearances by Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Rita Ora, and Robin Thicke. Following the conclusion of all performances, the audience votes for their favorite vocalist. The first least popular person is eliminated, revealing their identity by removing their mask.
