As special guests at the ultimate goodbye event for both the renowned Godfathers of Metal and its longstanding frontman Ozzy Osbourne as a solo artist, Metallica paid a poignant tribute to Black Sabbath. During their thirty minutes onstage at Villa Park, the band performed not one, but two Sabbath songs: “Johnny Blade“, a deep cut from 1978’s “Never Say Die!”, which the San Francisco metal titans were performing live for the first time, and “Hole In The Sky“, from the 1975 “Sabotage” album.

Instead, Slayer performed a set of six songs. “Disciple” and “War Ensemble” were the opening tracks played by the California thrash metal pioneers before Black Sabbath’s deep cut “Wicked World” off their self-titled album was played. “Raining Blood“, “Angel of Death,” and “South Of Heaven” were the three additional classic songs that Slayer performed as they wrapped up their set.
