Battle Beast was most recognised for winning two major band competitions in 2010 before landing a record deal. With contributions from thousands of bands worldwide, they became victorious in the international Wacken Metal Battle 2010, which took place at the renowned German metal festival Wacken Open Air. The band was soon declared the winner of Radio Rock Starba, a band competition organised by Radio Rock, a major Finnish radio station. The band garnered a lot of media attention after winning the Finnish competition, and by the end of 2010, they had signed a record deal with the Finnish company Hype Records.

In the spring of 2011, Battle Beast‘s debut album, Steel, was released in Finland. The album peaked at No. 7 upon its release thanks to the help of the two singles, “Show Me How to Die” and “Enter the Metal World,” as well as their extensive rotation on Radio Rock. The band secured a license agreement with the international metal label Nuclear Blast in late 2011, despite the album’s limited availability in Finland. In January 2012, a reissue of “Steel” with one bonus track was made available in Europe. In February 2012, the band won third place on the Finnish Metal Awards’ Newcomer of the Year 2011 list.

Battle Beast performed as an opening act for their fellow Finnish band Nightwish in order to promote the European release of “Steel”. Nightwish honoured the support band on the tour’s last performance by included a cover of “Show Me How to Die” in their acoustic set.
