American band Green Day performed at the opening performance of this year’s Super Bowl. The band played “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” with the orchestra, and then a medley of “Holiday“, “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “American Idiot“, with football players on stage at the end of the song.
Fans have had mixed reaction about the set, with some people disappointed “The one time you don’t speak out…” or “Why not even a pin or sticker or tshirt?” and others instead praising them “Your guys performance was awesome. Just wish you guys got a longer set. Awesome job!!!” and “Class act! It felt so good to see you guys up there… an unprecedented victory for punk rock… & a sweet return for rocknroll at the Super Bowl all around. Fuck yeah!“
A couple of days ago, Green Day performed at the “Spotify-sponsored Super Bowl party” on February 6, before to the Opening Ceremony performance. While on stage, Armstrong used some scathing remarks directed at ICE agents. As he has done quite frequently in recent years, Armstrong not only changed the lyrics of “American Idiot” from “I’m not part of a redneck agenda” to “I’m not part of the MAGA agenda,” but he also made a reference to the Epstein files, which are currently the most talked-about topic in the world, by changing the lyrics from “the representative from California has the floor” to “the representative from Epstein Island has the floor.“
To all the ICE agents out there, wherever you are, quit your shitty-ass job. Quit that shitty job you have. Because when this is over — and it will be over at some point in time — Kristi Noem, Stephen Miller, JD Vance, Donald Trump, they’re gonna drop you like a bad fucking habit. Come on this side of the line.
