British music journalist Malcolm Dome, a long-time heavy music journalist, has died at the age of 66. Born in 1955, Dome was known for his many contributions to publications such as Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, Classic Rock and Record Mirror.
Dome is also remembered for being the first journalist to use the term thrash metal, a term he used to describe Anthrax’s then new album ‘Fistful Of Metal’ when he wrote about the song ‘Metal Thrashing Mad‘. The term lived on.
Dome has also written numerous books during his career. His list of works includes The bible of Heavy Metal: Encyclopaedia Metallica (1981), Thrash Metal (1990), The Complete Guide to the Music of Metallica (1995) and Eddie Van Halen: Know the Man, Play the Music (2005).
Dome is remembered by numerous bands and musicians on social media.
Extremely sad to hear of Malcolm Dome’s passing. Not only was he an incredible talent who helped guide my relationship with heavy music, but he was also a great person. Today, I’m thinking of the fun, memorable times we spent together back in the day. https://t.co/9chlIVjSMm— Lars Ulrich (@larsulrich) November 1, 2021 Words cannot express how sorry I feel to hear about the passing of Malcolm Dome.
