Update: Year Of The Knife’s multiple injuries and recovery process

An update has been shared concerning the status of members of hardcore outfit Year Of The Knife, who were involved in a serious van accident last week while leaving Salt Lake City, Utah after their concert.

The band’s van collided with the rear of a semi-trailer truck, which lead to various injuries. Vocalist Madi Watkins was placed in critical condition initially, but was fortunately downgraded to stable condition days later, suffering unspecified head and spinal trauma.

Madi is married to the band’s bassist/guitarist Brandon Watkins, and his parents shared the following update earlier on July 06:

An update from Brandon’s parents:

Yesterday was an emotional day here in Salt Lake City,UT. Brandon, David Kisielewski (Aaron and Andy‘s father from “Year of the Knife“) and I went to the towing yard where their touring van was. We were able to retrieve everything with the exception of Andy‘s kick drum, which was totally destroyed. It was 3 grown men crying and totally stunned that anyone could have survived such a crash.

After we got ourselves together, we loaded everything up into 2 vehicles and took it directly to a UPS store and shipped every single piece home. The girls at the UPS store were absolutely AMAZING and so accommodating.

Update on the band members:

Andy (Drummer) has two broken ankles. He was released and is back home in Delaware with his mother. One of Toni’s friends donated a scooter for Andy to get around in.

Aaron (guitarist) is Andy‘s twin brother. He had a broken femur which was repaired a couple days ago. He also incurred a lasserated carotid right artery from the seatbelt. He miraculously managing. But, still in the hospital.

Our son, Brandon (guitar and bass) was concussed and received multiple contusions. He was released several days ago.

Our daughter in law, Madi Watkins, is the most critical of all 4 band members. She has so many surgeries ahead of her and we simply don’t know what her outcome is going to be.
She will be staying out here for a long time.

Dear friends of the family helped to procure a furnished home about 15 minutes from the hospital. Toni will be staying with Brandon for an extended period of time. I will be flying home today to get back to work tomorrow. With Toni’s business shut down, I have to get back.

We ask that you please keep all of the children and families involved in your prayers. It’s going to be a long time until the kids can get back to work. Toni, as well.

With medical bills piling up, a loss of income for several parties, a destroyed touring van and the cost of accommodations in Utah, the band could use any support you can offer. Donations are still being accepted via via this GoFundMe campaign.
