Underoath goes “Undercover” as a masked band for big reveal

Since masked bands are so popular right now, Underoath recently pretended to be a brand-new masked band in order to make a significant announcement. President, an enigmatic band, was been announced as part of the 2025 Download Festival roster on February 20. However, Locus Ultra, another masked band, also recently went around in January and February. On January 11 of this year, the enigmatic foursome posted their first Instagram picture. Earlier this month, they did a few performances alongside Limbs and Norma Jean in addition to performing on the Emo’s Not Dead cruise. While some followers were confused by this “new” anonymous group, others were able to piece it together and determine the true identities of its members. On January 24, Locus Ultra posted a picture to Instagram with the caption, “Locus Ultra exists as a dream state of unconsciousness living in the space between a dream and sleep paralysis.” According to one commenter, Spencer Chamberlain’s voice sounds like distortion in the audio clip that plays over the reel. Locus Ultra posted another reel on their Facebook a few days later, captioning it, “Some are meant to understand and others to simply receive.” On February 11, they posted an announcement about a few more events, stating in the caption that it was “thirty hours until termination.”

Numerous hints pointed to the fact that Locus Ultra are truly Underoath. First, according to a press release, the Latin term “locus ultra” means “place beyond,” and the artwork for some of Underoath‘s previous songs incorporated this phrase. The song titles on one of Locus Ultra‘s setlists, which a fan posted on Reddit, also correspond to some of the songs that Underoath has released in the past year: “All the Love” is “All the Love Is Gone,” “Teeth,” “Survivor’s Guilt,” and “Generation” is “Generation No Surrender.” The final paragraph of the Emo’s Not Dead message made reference to a video that Locus Ultra shared on Valentine’s Day promoting Underoath‘s new album, “The Place After This One”.  On March 28, the record will be accessible. Underoath performed the previously unheard songs live as Locus Ultra to increase anticipation for the album’s release, even if the track list provided in the album pre-order mentions the other tracks that were on the previously indicated setlist.
