This month, Channel 4 in the UK will broadcast a three-part documentary about Marilyn Manson over three nights in a row.

From his meteoric rise as the self-proclaimed ‘Antichrist Superstar’ to the chilling abuse allegations that have engulfed his career, this series dives deep into Manson’s world to separate fact from fiction.

The documentary’s first segment, “The Birth of Marilyn Manson,” explores how former music writer Brian Warners became the contentious rock icon.

From his shocking stage antics to his offensive backstage behaviour, Manson became a lightning rod for moral panic. Accused by many of being a malign influence on American youth, he faced backlash for allegedly inspiring violence, including the Columbine High School massacre. Manson used the controversy to position himself as a misunderstood artist and an advocate for listening to disillusioned youth.

Allegations of Abuse, the second episode, covers the accusations against Manson and features an interview with actress Evan Rachel Wood, who was once Manson‘s girlfriend and revealed details of her “horrific” time with the singer in the HBO documentary Phoenix Rising. The Reckoning, the final episode, explores the ramifications of the abuse claims as well as broader ramifications for the entertainment sector. In addition to releasing a new record in November titled “One Assassination Under God – Chapter 1,” Manson has refuted every accusation made against him.
