The six-time multi-platinum hit album “Toxicity” by System Of A Down was taken off from Spotify this week, much to the dismay of the Armenian-American nu metal group’s fans. The album is still not accessible on Spotify, although it is accessible on other well-known streaming services including Apple Music and YouTube Music. Even though they are not directly related to the “Toxicity” record, a number of the album’s standout tracks may still be found on Spotify through related EPs and compilations. The band themselves has not yet responded to the issue. However, due to the many moving components involved in albums, particularly older major label releases, it is not unheard of for an album to be momentarily removed from a streaming service while adjustments are made to rights, distribution, etc., or even while disputes are resolved. Notably, a number of the band’s songs have recently been uploaded again through their official digital channels (check out “Marmalade,” “P.L.U.C.K.” and other songs on YouTube), which seems to suggest that something similar has been going on. One would expect the SOAD team to have these issues resolved as soon as possible, considering the amount of money “Toxicity” still brings in for the band (the album’s title track was the most recent to join the Spotify 1 billion plays club this past fall).
