Tool‘s two most recent albums, “Fear Inoculum” (2019) and “10,000 Days” (2006), were released thirteen years apart. As they appear to be working on their upcoming follow-up, it’s apparent that the guys in Tool agree the timing is not short. When guitarist Adam Jones and frontman Maynard James Keenan were interviewed on Loudwire Nights earlier this week, they discussed their efforts in detail, as reported by MetalSucks. However, they were first on to discuss their involvement in “Back to the Beginning” last month. When the topic of new music came up during their talk, Keenan disclosed that the band was “writing, I guess.” Shortly afterward, Jones added some further details about their current writing stage.
We want to get another record out and play, do what we do. The three of us have been jamming. I don’t know if you go, oh, the writing process has started. It’s always there. Between preparing for an upcoming tour or whatever we’re doing, there’s points where someone goes, oh, I got this and I got this. But I think we’re going to dive deep soon.
Jones then stated that he had “lots riffs,” which the band will take, piece together, and hopefully utilize as the foundation for new songs. So unfortunately, still a long way to go.
