Tommy Thayer reveals new music from KISS is on the way

Tommy Thayer, the guitarist for the renowned rock group KISS, said that new music is in the works in a recent interview with Guitar World magazine, as per Blabbermouth.

We did record a great new song that Paul [Stanley, KISS guitarist/vocalist] wrote. That’s probably about as much as I can tell you right now. But KISS has always believed in making things an event, so whatever new music comes, it has to feel special and have a reason for existing. You don’t make another KISS record just because you’re supposed to make another KISS record.

Thayer began working part-time on Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley’s upcoming book Kisstory in 1994. This led to more projects and ultimately a full-time position with Kiss. Painting Stanley’s home and cleaning Simmons’ gutters were among the first jobs Thayer completed for Stanley and Simmons. Thayer oversaw both the Kiss MTV Unplugged show and the 1995 Worldwide Kiss Convention tour. Thayer assisted Ace Frehley and Peter Criss in relearning their original parts in advance of the 1996 Kiss Alive/Worldwide Tour. Kiss‘s long-form video and film releases, such as “Kiss, The Second Coming” (1998), New Line Cinema’s feature “Detroit Rock City” (1998), and Showtime Television’s pay-per-view “The Last Kiss” (2000), were all produced and edited by Thayer.

In 2002, when Ace Frehley’s participation in the band became increasingly questionable, Thayer prepared to play lead guitar during a Kiss performance at the Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony in Salt Lake City. A month later, Thayer received the call, put on the Spaceman makeup for the first time, and joined Kiss onstage at a private concert in Trelawny, Jamaica. In 2002, he made a number of TV appearances, such as on Fox’s That 70s Show and ABC’s Dick Clark’s American Bandstand 50th Anniversary Show.
