Author Benedetta Baldin - 10.3.2026

Tommy DeCarlo, the Boston frontman, passed away after receiving a brain cancer diagnosis in September, as per UCR. He was sixty years old. DeCarlo passed away on Monday, according to his family. After original singer Brad Delp committed suicide in 2008, Boston added DeCarlo. (On a March 9, they would both pass away.) DeCarlo had an unrealized potential to continue Delp’s vocal legacy on stage while working a day job as a credit manager at Home Depot. Leader Tom Scholz praised DeCarlo along the road as he participated in several well-received tours and Boston‘s most recent studio effort. DeCarlo, who had always loved Boston, had never even played in a band.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Dad, Tommy DeCarlo, on Monday, March 9th, 2026. After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end.

During this difficult time, we kindly ask that friends and fans respect our family’s privacy as we grieve and support one another.

Rest in peace, Dad.

With love,
Annie, Talia & Tommy Jr.

Tom Scholz, a composer and songwriter, founded the American rock group Boston in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1975. Scholz and lead singer Brad Delp, who were the band’s only consistent members from 1975 to 1990 and from 1994 until Delp’s suicide in 2007, were among its core members. Over the course of the group’s roster history, several musicians and band members have changed. The 1970s and 1980s saw commercial success for Boston. As of 2025, the RIAA has recognized the band’s 1976 self-titled first album as 17× Platinum, making it one of the best-selling albums by an American rock band. The band is ranked 63rd among the world’s best-selling musicians after selling over 75 million records globally, including 31 million in the US.
