After Ticketmaster unintentionally leaked the band’s intentions, alternative metal supergroup Tomahawk has announced that they would indeed be returning to active duty this year, as per theprp. On Monday, February 23rd, more information about this return will be revealed.
Mike Patton founded Ipecac Recordings when Faith No More disbanded in 1998, went back to work with his previous band, Mr. Bungle, and formed the metal supergroup Fantômas with Dave Lombardo of Slayer and Buzz Osborne of the Melvins. At a Mr. Bungle show in Nashville in 1999, Patton met Duane Denison, with whom he started jamming and sharing music. The band recorded their debut album in Nashville in May and June of 2001. Joe Funderburk produced the album, which was released on October 30, 2001. Following Tomahawk‘s release, the band embarked on a lengthy tour, performing in numerous nations worldwide. Although they were the opening act for bands like Tool, they typically took center stage during performances.
The band was regularly jeered for offensively addressing the fans during Tool’s 2002 summer tour of North America.Additionally, Tomahawk performed at a number of festivals, including as Australia’s Big Day Out festival in 2002. In 2003, they released their second album, “Mit Gas”, which was produced by Joe Barresi. Alongside labelmates the Melvins and Fantômas, Tomahawk participated in the “Geek Tour” in 2003. In their early years, the band gained notoriety for dressing up as police officers for concerts and advertising picture shoots. After wrapping up their tours with “Tomahawk” and “Mit Gas” in late 2003, the band took a brief break from 2004 to 2006 to concentrate on other endeavors.
“Anonymous”, the band’s third album, was released by Ipecac Recordings on June 19, 2007. For unspecified reasons, Kevin Rutmanis left the band while the recording was being done. Denison and Stanier recorded their portions for the album in Nashville, and Patton added his vocals and samples in San Francisco. During this time, there were no live performances. Tomahawk did not operate between 2008 and 2011.
