Tom Morello, a Grammy-winning guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and activist from Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, and Prophets Of Rage, is making a comeback with “Leviathan Freedom,” a brand-new science fiction epic based on the real-life tale of American legend Robert Smalls, as per Blabbermouth. In 2011, Morello debuted in comics with the highly regarded “Orchid” series. For a five-issue miniseries event from Amazon’s Comixology Originals exclusive digital content line, the lifelong comics enthusiast is now collaborating with Emmy Award-winning writer/producer Marc Guggenheim (“Star Wars: Jar Jar”, “The Whisper War”, “The Arrowverse”), artist Szymon Kudra (“Spawn”, “Punisher”), and letterer DC Hopkins. This summer, “Leviathan Freedom” will make its premiere.
The science fiction film “Leviathan Freedom” retells the story of Robert Smalls, a man who was born into slavery but managed to free himself by commandeering a Confederate vessel and sailing himself, his family, and others to freedom.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been on a mission to unearth the stories of revolutionaries — the fighters, the visionaries, the ones history either buries or sanitizes beyond recognition. Their courage, defiance, and unwavering pursuit of justice, often in the face of seemingly impossible odds, have shaped the world, even if their names are too often left out of the narrative. Robert Smalls is one of those heroes. The idea of taking his revolutionary spirit and launching it into the cosmos feels like a perfect extension of his fight.
The civil war in “Leviathan Freedom” splits the galaxy. And until one man chooses to oppose it, the Doldrums, the labourer caste that is vital to the war engine, bear the heavy human cost of combat rather than the war chambers.
‘Leviathan Freedom’ comes as a reminder that true freedom is rarely given and very often must be taken. – Marc Guggenheim
With illustrations by Sedat Oezgen (“Savage Sword of Conan”), colouring by Carlos Cabrera, and lettering by Dave Sharpe, Guggenheim is now working on a five-issue science fiction mystery thriller titled “The Whisper War” that will be available from Amazon’s Comixology Originals exclusive digital content line.
