Just weeks before the popular alt-rock group No Doubt is scheduled to perform at the Sphere in Las Vegas, guitarist Tom Dumont has disclosed that he has Parkinson’s disease, as per UCR. Dumont talked about his preparations for the Sphere residency in a video message that he sent to Instagram. He mentioned that he has liked “looking through old photographs and relearning old songs.” He continued by saying that the encounter had caused him to reflect on “how grateful I am for the life I’ve gotten to lead as a musician all these years.” After that, Dumont—who joined No Doubt in 1988 and has been a consistent member of the group ever since—started talking about his health.
A number of years ago I was experiencing a number of symptoms, I went to my doctor, I went to a neurologist, did a whole bunch of tests, and I was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s disease. It’s been a struggle, it’s a struggle every day.
Dumont stated he will still participate in No Doubt‘s Sphere residency, which begins on May 6, despite his illness. Parkinson’s disease is a neurological condition that progressively impairs movement. Millions of patients have been able to control their symptoms thanks to medicinal advancements, but the illness still has no known cure. Other well-known musicians who have struggled with the illness include Linda Ronstadt, Neil Diamond, and Ozzy Osbourne.
