Tim Lambesis clarifies recent comments on As I Lay Dying’s former members

Tim Lambesis, the singer of As I Lay Dying, has apparently stirred things up with some recent remarks about his former colleagues. According to theprp, Lambesis himself emphasized a social media response he made on his Instagram. He seemed to be downplaying the overall accomplishments of some important members of As I Lay Dying‘s previous roster in that comment. He made an indirect reference to guitarist and singer Phil Sgrosso, guitarist and singer Nick Hipa, bassist and singer Josh Gilbert, and drummer Jordan Mancino, since there are now a few players to cycle through As I Lay Dying. They performed from about 2003 to 2014 before splitting up when Lambesis was given a prison sentence in 2013 for trying to have his wife killed by a hitman.

Following Lambesis’ release from prison, the remaining band members listed above went on to form Wovenwar, which included vocals by Shane Blay of Oh, Sleeper fame. They eventually ended that group and returned to As I Lay Dying. However, that reunion was brief because most of the members of that lineup disagreed with Lambesis and started leaving about 2020, without Sgrosso. With their numbers reduced, Lambesis and Sgrosso would rebuild the team until the following lineup collapsed in the latter part of last year due to fresh controversies and heightened scrutiny about Lambesis and his polarizing behavior.

Since releasing their return single “Echoes” earlier this month, Lambesis has once again reconstructed the As I Lay Dying lineup with entirely new musicians. Lambesis may be heard personally answering a fan who said that they missed the “old members” in the comment below. Lambesis’ reply was as follows:

there are still a couple Wovenwar records if you want to hear what they do without me. Otherwise, if you close your eyes and listen to the new song it’s almost like they didn’t matter nearly as much as everyone thinks they did.

I hope you’re able to enjoy the path ahead with us.

It’s unclear whether he really meant that remark because the screen capture of the response that Lambesis allegedly posted on his Instagram story included the following additional caption:

Just having fun, I’m not that serious. But I hope people can list to music with their ears instead of their eyes.
