Three Days Grace kick off their Alienation Tour in Fort Wayne

On a rather cold and snowy night, Three Days Grace came to town at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana, as part of their Alienation Tour. It was a packed house from the start, and it kept getting fuller as the night went on. To help join in on the eventful night of live music, The Funeral Portrait and I Prevail came along with them.

The Funeral Portrait kicked off our night, and as always, they were a hit with the crowd, winning them over long before the end of the set. For those of you who have seen The Funeral Portrait before, you’ll be excited to know they kicked off the set with vocalist Lee Jennings’ cover of “Mad World,” as well as switched up their usual opening setlist to include “Stay Weird.” They also included their usual crowd involvement antics during “Dark Thoughts” and “Blood Mother,” something that got the entire arena excited for their set.

If you weren’t already a fan of I Prevail’s music before their set, you surely would’ve stayed for their comedic onstage banter between band members. Between songs their was a lot of back-and-forth banter and jokes being shared, really giving you a glimpse into the personalities of the people behind the music. Of course, there were also treats for fans of the band, with lots of crowd favorites being played throughout the setlist, including the live debut of “God.” And if that wasn’t enough for you, maybe the quick drum solo crossover with a rave would be enough to win you over, as it was definitely a hit with the crowd.

Three Days Grace hit the stage with instant momentum, getting the crowd hyped up from the beginning of their set. Taking full advantage of the catwalk, giving them a chance to be closer to the fans, vocalists Adam Gontier and Matt Walst were skipping all over the stage. The energy onstage reflected through the crowd throughout their entire set, with chants of “Three Days Grace!” filling the silence between songs multiple times.

While Fort Wayne isn’t a typical stop on tours, the band made it clear that it’s become a second home to them and that the crowds here are always on fire. The band took time to reminisce about their days starting out at the smaller venue in the area, Pierre’s, before making it big and getting to the point of nearly selling out the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. They also took time to note that guitarist Barry Stock has chosen to live in Indiana, despite the band being originally from Ontario, Canada, making him have something in common with us fellow Hoosiers in the room.

Three Days Grace had a varied setlist, perfect for fans of the band from all eras. Everyone in the arena got off their feet when hits such as “I Hate Everything About You,” “I Am Machine,” and “Riot” were played. For those who have more recently gotten into the band or are fans of their latest album, “Mayday” was featured on the setlist. The band also featured a special acoustic “backyard campfire” segment in their setlist, something they said they hoped to bring fans into their world of songwriting and how the band tends to come up with new ideas.
