Multi-platinum hard rock powerhouse Five Finger Death Punch will release its highly anticipated tenth studio album, “Legacy“, on July 31st. Marking the band’s 20th anniversary, the album arrives at a significant moment in Five Finger Death Punch’s career as the group continues preparing for its upcoming world tour while celebrating two decades as one of modern metal’s biggest names.

Earlier this week, on July 9th, Chaoszine sat down with guitarist and founding member Zoltan Bathory via Zoom to discuss the upcoming album, the meaning behind its title, the band’s remarkable longevity and the future of heavy music.

During the conversation, Bathory explained how “Legacy” became the perfect title for the band’s milestone tenth studio album after reflecting on twenty years of relentless touring, recording and overcoming countless obstacles. He also discussed why every album in a band’s career serves a different purpose, how Five Finger Death Punch carefully selected the songs that best represent the band’s identity, and why he believes “Legacy” captures everything the group has become over the years.

Bathory also spoke extensively about the importance of so-called “gateway bands” in keeping heavy music alive. According to him, successful arena acts have a responsibility to introduce new audiences to emerging artists by taking them on tour—something Five Finger Death Punch themselves benefited from early in their career while opening for Kiss and Disturbed. Today, the band continues that tradition by giving younger acts the opportunity to perform in front of tens of thousands of fans around the world.

Elsewhere in the interview, Bathory reflected on his creative process, explaining why he still prefers designing merchandise, editing videos and overseeing much of the band’s visual identity himself rather than outsourcing the work. He also opened up about balancing long-term planning with the unpredictable nature of the music industry, revealing that adaptability has been one of the key reasons behind the band’s continued success.

The interview concludes with Bathory sending a heartfelt message to the band’s Finnish fans, recalling Five Finger Death Punch’s earliest club shows in Finland and describing the band’s audience not simply as fans, but as “a tribe” that has supported them from the very beginning.
