The Toronto International Film Festival will premiere the new documentary about Neil Peart

The Toronto International Film Festival will host the world premiere of a new documentary titled “Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple” about the late Rush drummer Neil Peart, as per Blabbermouth. The 96-minute film, which was directed by Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn (who also filmed the 2010 RUSH documentary “Beyond The Lighted Stage”), will have its premiere on September 16 and a public screening on September 19. On September 23, it will also appear on Canada’s CBC network as a part of the “The Passionate Eye” series.

“Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple” chronicles the late Canadian musician’s difficult beginnings as a young performer and his quick ascent to fame. In addition to the opinions of other well-known drummers, the movie features interviews with Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, the co-founders of Rush. Additionally, it showcases Lee and Lifeson’s latest live renditions of Rush hits, with Danny Carey (Tool), Stewart Copeland (The Police), and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) taking Peart’s place at the drum kit.

“Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple” blurb from TIFF reads as follows: “Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson team up with four revered drummers — Stewart Copeland, Danny Carey, Chad Smith, and Gavin Harrison — for an exhilarating and poignant tribute to late RUSH legend Neil Peart.” The dates of the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival are September 10–September 20. After fighting glioblastoma, an aggressive kind of brain cancer, for three years, Peart passed away in Santa Monica, California, on January 7, 2020. He was sixty-seven. Three days later, Rush revealed Peart’s death, causing shockwaves and a global outpouring of grief from musicians and fans.

Rush is presently on the road with Anika Nilles, a German drummer who travelled with iconic guitarist Jeff Beck in 2022, and newly joined keyboardist Loren Gold, who is best known as touring member of The Who and Chicago. The June 7 event at Kia Forum in Los Angeles, California was the kick-off gig of the “Fifty Something” tour, which marks Rush’s first with the band’s reformed lineup of legendary members Lee (vocals, bass) and Lifeson (guitar) alongside Nilles and Gold.
