As the Czech open-air festival Brutal Assault announces, the British gothic rock legends The Sisters Of Mercy have cancelled their appearance at this year’s edition. According to the festival, the cancellation is due to the band around frontman Andrew Eldritch “moving up the recording schedule for their new album”:

“It is with great regret that we must announce Sisters of Mercy will not be performing at this year’s Brutal Assault. The cancellation is due to the band moving up the recording schedule for their new album. We sincerely apologize to all fans of these British icons; we are already in talks to bring them to the fortress for next year’s edition instead.”

Given that their third and most recent studio album “Vision Thing” was released in 1990, over 35 years ago, many social media users are sceptical that The Sisters Of Mercy are actually working on a new album, with one of them commenting on Brutal Assault’s Facebook page: “Brutal Assault, I think Mr. Eldritch made a joke on you.” Brutal Assault, which will take place from 5 to 8 August 2026 at the Josefov Fortress in Jaroměř, also announces two new additions to its 2026 edition:

“To balance out the bad news, we have two exciting additions to the lineup! Joining us in Josefov this year are the Swedish masters of epic doom metal, CANDLEMASS, and the Mexican aggrotech/EBM ensemble, HOCICO!”
