The Rasmus released the “Dark Summer” EP today. It is a three-song collection featuring rare recordings that are now available on streaming services for the first time.
The “Dark Summer” EP includes the songs: “Dark Summer,” “Omen,” and “Odyssey (Bump Nasties Reconstruction).”
The tracks were recorded for the band’s 2022 album “Rise”. Previously, the songs were only available as physical releases in extremely limited quantities and in just a few countries. Now, for the first time, the tracks are finally becoming more widely available on streaming services.
At the heart of the EP is its title track, “Dark Summer.” It’s a melodic rock song that combines the contrasts characteristic of The Rasmus. Dark yet hopeful, atmospheric yet powerfully direct, the song blends poignant melodies, driving guitars, and Lauri Ylönen’s recognizable voice. Its bittersweet atmosphere encapsulates the strange beauty hinted at by its title: light and darkness coexist.
“Omen,” on the other hand, delves deeper into the band’s darker, cinematic side. Rich in atmosphere and emotionally charged, the track feels like a natural continuation of the world created on the Rise album.
The EP is rounded out by “Odyssey (Bump Nasties Reconstruction),” which offers an alternative interpretation of the original album track and boldly highlights another side of the song through a fresh production.
Together, these three tracks are more than just a collection of rarities. They beautifully complement the “Rise” album and offer a deeper look at one of the most significant phases of the band’s career in recent years.
Released in September 2022, “Rise” is The Rasmus’s tenth studio album, and it also includes the song “Jezebel,” with which the band represented Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest. The album marked an important new phase for the band.
Until now, the songs compiled for the “Dark Summer” release have largely been out of reach for the band’s audience. Previous physical releases were available only in certain regions and were produced in extremely limited quantities. Now that the songs are available on streaming services, listeners everywhere have the chance to discover this rare slice of the “Rise” era.
More than two decades after their international breakthrough, The Rasmus continues to reach audiences across generations and national borders. “Dark Summer” is being released at a time when the band is once again taking its distinctive sound around the world. The Rasmus is currently touring the United States and Latin America.
