Deftones‘ tenth studio album is expected to be released before the summer is over. In early 2024, the group went into the studio for that endeavor, along by producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains). Although singer/guitarist Chino Moreno conducted more voice sessions in the spring of last year, the record has not received much attention since. In the months that followed, the band has continued to perform live, but it wasn’t until this past weekend that they started to build anticipation for their upcoming album. They previewed “Private Music” at their June 29th performance at London, England’s Crystal Palace Park, with an expected July 10th reveal/release date. Interestingly, their teaser, which was shown on the large screens next to the stage during the performance, also stated that the record would be “distributed by Deftones,” which seemed to be a sign of a label change. Reprise/Warner was the band’s most recent signing. The record will be arriving in August, according to a recent livestreamed conversation on B-Real’s “The Dr. Greenthumb Show,” which included Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter as one of the participants. Son Doobie of Funkdoobiest presented the show, which featured multi-platinum rapper/singer Everlast of House Of Pain as a guest. Everlast was the one who announced the release month. Everlast then shared his opinions on a sample of new Deftones music that Carpenter had given him after Doobie showered him with accolades for his upcoming album, which is anticipated to be released later this year.
Since we’re going to be on this kind of, you know, throwing flowers around attitude, this man [points to Carpenter] has a record coming out much sooner, in August, that I just heard a few songs from. Sounds like Deftones all got in time machines and got back out and hit the studio last week and are feeling young and beautiful. That record is amazing, man, all three [songs] that I heard… It’s gonna be a good musical summer for people who like what we do. Or summer for them; for you and me, probably end of the year.
Carpenter was a bit more vague.
We’re actually going back out — well, they’re out right now in Europe —I join back up with the band in August, and were doing Canada/U.S. mix.
The music you played Steph, Strong One‘ [one of Carpenter‘s nicknames] is always treating us to what he’s got going. And, man, those songs are amazing. And, like I said, man, Chino sounds amazing… Just on it man, and sharp man. And yeah, man, your guys show is ridiculous, bro. It’s sickening… And then just to say again, you know, man, it’s just I can’t wait for you guys hear it, it’s so dope. Son Doobie
