Five former members of the Swedish metal band In Flames, including founder Jesper Strömblad, early vocalist Mikael Stanne, and longtime members Niclas Engelin, Peter Iwers, and Daniel Svensson, established The Halo Effect in 2019. Their claimed goal was to go back to the “Gothenburg sound” of the 1990s, which helped establish the melodic death metal genre. The song “Halo Effect” from Rush’s album “Clockwork Angels” is referenced in the band’s name, according to an interview.

Prior to the release of their debut album “Days of the Lost” on August 12, 2022, the band released their first single, “Shadowminds,” on November 9, 2021. across September and October, the band went on tour with Amon Amarth and Machine Head across Europe and the UK to promote the record. Recorded in 2024, their second studio album is expected to be released in early 2025. On September 25, 2024, its debut song “Detonate” was made available. “March of the Unheard” is the title of the album, which was released on January 10, 2025. “We Are Shadows”, the band’s covers EP, was released on November 21 of that year.
