The defamation lawsuit that Marilyn Manson had filed against his fiancée and her associate has been dropped

Marilyn Manson has withdrawn his case alleging defamation against Evan Rachel Wood, his former fiancée, and Ilma Gore, her associate. In March 2022, the multi-platinum shock rocker initially brought the lawsuit against the two. He accused the two in his initial lawsuit of coordinating a group of women to make accusations of sexual assault and sexual misconduct against him. More than a dozen women made similar accusations against Manson after Wood publicly identified him as her abuser in a 2021 statement. Manson‘s career was consequently placed on pause, as his manager, label, talent agent, and others severed their connections with him.

Manson further asserted in his previously mentioned defamation complaint that Wood and Gore even pretended to be an FBI agent. He also claimed that the two illegally accessed some of his accounts, including his email. A judge dismissed most of Manson‘s defamation lawsuit by February 2024, and he was now responsible for $496,364 of Wood’s legal costs. Manson filed an appeal to reinstate some of the dropped claims in August of last year. His claims that Wood and Gore had impersonated him online, obtained unauthorized access to his computer and electronic accounts, and were responsible for a “swatting” phone call that led authorities to Manson‘s home were among the allegations from his defamation lawsuit that were set to go to trial.

Manson‘s lawsuit against Wood & Gore has now been declared dismissed. According to Rolling Stone, Wood turned down Manson‘s offer to pay a portion of her legal bills in order to reach a private out-of-court settlement. Manson has now decided to abandon his lawsuit and agreed to cover Wood’s legal costs.

Marilyn Manson — whose real name is Brian Warner — filed a lawsuit against Ms. Wood as a publicity stunt to try to undermine the credibility of his many accusers and revive his faltering career. But his attempt to silence and intimidate Ms. Wood failed. As the trial court correctly found, Warner’s claims were meritless. Warner’s decision to finally abandon his lawsuit and pay Ms. Wood her full fee award of almost $327,000 only confirms as much.
