The long-tenured bassist for The Cure, Simon Gallup, has revealed that he would not be playing with the new wave icons due to an unidentified ailment, as per UCR. With performances until the end of August, the trio is presently on a summer tour around the United Kingdom and Europe. Fans saw that Gallup was absent from the band’s performance on Friday, July 10, in Berlin. Eden Gallup, the rock star’s son, took his place. During the performance, frontman Robert Smith just mentioned that it had been a “long and difficult day” before dedicating the song “Lullaby” to Simon. The Cure explained the lineup change on social media following the performance.
