In a new interview with Podcast of The Wicked, Jon Schaffer of Iced Earth shares a deeper insight about his time in prison. As transcribed by Chaoszine.net, here’s what he said about it.

The three months in solitary was pretty brutal. The conditions were subhuman. I got three books sent when I was in DC. I would have been in the law library for sure, but we were denied access. One of the books that Mark recommended that I read and mygirlfriend sent to me was written from a guy who survived Auschwitz. That was an amazing read. The things that human beings can endure is a lot. There’s a lot. You have to have the will to do that, but you’re much stronger than you think you are. I guess that’s what I’m trying to say. A book that comes along that is like this is really helpful. After getting out, I was still in a prison because every quarter it was being continued. You never know what’s going to happen. I’m three years into this and I’m telling Mark and Andy, if I got to go to prison, I want to get started. I’m not getting any younger. This is driving me nuts, man. I want to get my time over with. Even when you’re out, you can’t really feel free in that scenario. Like I said, it was actually a gift. The whole thing was a blessing, but you got to be able to get on the other side of it to look back and to see that.

He also shared his point of view about Ghost.

I think Ghost has some really great song structure, cool melodies. I can see why they’re so huge. They have all the right stuff going on. Just not a big fan of the lyrical direction.

After all that’s said and done, here’s how he would like to be remembered.

As a loyal friend. That’s how.
