The only two consistent members of Cavalera Conspiracy, a Brazilian-American heavy metal ensemble based in Phoenix, Arizona, are the brothers Max (vocals, rhythm guitar) and Igor Cavalera (drums, percussion). Max and Igor are well-known as former Sepultura members. For legal considerations, the band changed their name from Inflikted when it was established in 2007. The Cavalera brothers, who created Sepultura in the early 1980s, had been at odds for ten years before the group was formed. In order to release re-recorded versions of their iconic Sepultura albums in 2023, they changed their name to Cavalera in 2022.

After the brothers’ breakup, Igor recorded four studio albums with Sepultura before quitting the group in January 2006, and Max Cavalera started a new band called Soulfly. After receiving an unexpected call from his brother in July 2006, Max urged Igor to come see him in Phoenix, Arizona, so they could perform at a Soulfly show. Igor played two Sepultura songs while performing with Soulfly. Max proposed that they start a new endeavor after the show, and Igor agreed. Max selected Joe Duplantier (Gojira) as bass guitarist and Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo to round out the group. In July 2007, the group worked with engineer and co-producer Logan Mader at Undercity Studios in Los Angeles to make their first album.

On March 25, 2008, Roadrunner Records released “Inflikted”, which was named after the band’s former name. Since then, Cavalera Conspiracy has put out three additional albums: “Psychosis” (2017), “Pandemonium” (2014), and “Blunt Force Trauma” (2011).
