Teemu Mäntysaari speaks about Megadeth’s last album

Author Benedetta Baldin - 25.1.2026

Teemu Mäntysaari, the guitarist for Megadeth, was asked in a recent interview with Guitar World magazine when Dave Mustaine, the band’s leader, informed him that the group’s upcoming self-titled album would be its last, as per Blabbermouth.

Pretty late in the process. We were in the studio for a good 10 months, and that’s when there were first talks about the ‘farewell’ idea. So most of the album was done, I’d say. But, for example, the lyrics for ‘The Last Note’ were done after the farewell decision, so we really didn’t think about it while making the other songs.

Teemu described his feelings upon learning that Megadeth would be starting a “farewell” tour and releasing its final album.

I have huge appreciation for Dave. It’s super exciting to have my name printed in the [album] booklet; that’s probably only going to hit when you actually see the physical product. But I haven’t thought about it too much; I’m just living in the moment and making the best of the time we have. And the farewell tour isn’t going to be short; we’re going to go everywhere.

Born in Tampere, Finland, Mäntysaari started playing the guitar at the age of twelve. He became a member of Wintersun in 2004. Since 2015, he has also been a part of Smackbound. The group’s first album with Mäntysaari, Megadeth, was released on January 23 through a collaboration between the Frontiers Label Group’s new label BLKIIBLK and Mustaine’s Tradecraft imprint. Chris Rakestraw, a producer, mixer, and engineer who worked on the band’s latest two albums, “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!” in 2022 and “Dystopia” in 2016, collaborated with Megadeth once more.
