In a recent interview with Altars Of Metal, Atheist frontman and founder Kelly Shaefer discussed the band’s upcoming plans, including their first new album in 15 years.
“We have a really busy year coming up,” Shaefer revealed. “In a couple of weeks, we head to South America with our friends in CRYPTOPSY. Then we have a North American run in April that’s yet to be announced. We plan on hitting Japan and New Zealand this year, in June, and then Europe in September and another U.S. tour in November. So somewhere in between, we’re gonna be writing [new material].“
Speaking about the progress on the follow-up to their 2010 album “Jupiter” (released via Season Of Mist), Shaefer shared: “We’ve got about six new songs written. And it’s the first new ATHEIST music in a lot of years — 15, to be exact, which blows my fucking mind, that ‘Jupiter’ is 15 years old already. ‘Jupiter’ is a teenager. It feels like it was just a minute ago.“
