Finnish metal icon Tarja Turunen has announced the release of her heaviest album to date, titled “Frisson Noir”, set to arrive on June 12th via earMUSIC. The upcoming record marks a return to heavier sounds after several years exploring different musical directions.
“Frisson Noir” showcases Tarja’s diverse musical palette, blending cinematic orchestrations, her classical background, and the intensity of modern metal. The result is an ambitious and dynamic album where multiple influences collide into a cohesive whole.
As a first taste, Tarja has released the album’s lead single “At Sea“, a track running over 10 minutes that highlights the wide emotional and stylistic range of the record. Instead of traditional guitar solos, the song features a prominent orchestral arrangement performed by the Budapest Art Orchestra and Budapest Art Choir under the direction of Gyorgy Gulyas Nagy.
The album also features an impressive lineup of guest musicians, including former bandmate Marko Hietala, Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Dani Filth from Cradle of Filth. Mixing duties were handled by Grammy-winning producer Neal Avron, known for his work with Linkin Park, Skillet and Disturbed.
Tarja’s previous studio album featuring new material, “In The Raw”, was released in 2019.
In support of the album, Tarja will embark on the “International Frisson Live Tour 2026”, kicking off on September 30th and running across Central Europe through mid-October, with more dates expected to be announced soon.
