On August 27th, Armenian-American nu metal band System of A Down began their whirlwind tour of North American stadium gigs at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. In their roughly 26-song set, the celebrated trio included a live tribute to the late heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne and his groundbreaking metal band Black Sabbath, among other setlist surprises. For their first performance of the song since 2002, System Of A Down pulled out their cover of Black Sabbath‘s 1972 song “Snowblind.” The song was dedicated to Osbourne, who died in July, by the band. Before playing that rendition, guitarist/vocalist Daron Malakian spoke to the audience, according to theprp.
We did a few Ozzfests. Some of you are old enough that you were there. Some of you weren’t even born yet. I want to thank Ozzy Osbourne. We want to thank Ozzy Osbourne. We’re gonna do a number now about cocaine, it’s called ‘Snowblind‘.
That song was first covered by System Of A Down on their 2000 album “Nativity In Black II: A Tribute To Black Sabbath.” The song “Tentative” from “Hypnotize” was played for the first time since 2015 elsewhere in System Of A Down‘s set. “Lonely Day” and “Lost In Hollywood” also featured brief medley previews of “Our Lips Are Sealed” by The Go-Go and “Won’t Get Fooled Again” by The Who.
