US experimental rock band Swans have announced that they will release their 17th studio album “Birthing” on May 30, 2025 via Mute Records and Young God Records. The album will be released as a triple vinyl, double CD and digitally. The first editions will include bonus material such as a live concert recording and a documentary.

Michael Gira, the band’s founder, says that most of the material for the album was written during the 2023-2024 tour and finalised in the studio. He describes the album as the last “in this format” and says the band will continue as a more stripped-down line-up in the future.

The album’s first single “I Am A Tower” is a 20-minute track that represents the band’s signature intense soundscape. Gira promises that the band will do one more tour in its current form at the end of 2025.

The “Birthing” album features several guest musicians in addition to the core band. The album was recorded in Berlin and produced by Michael Gira.
