Swallow the Sun release “Velvet Chains” video to mark Finnish Grammy success

Finnish death-doom band Swallow the Sun have celebrated their first Finnish Grammy (Emma Award) win—recognizing “Shining” as Metal Album of the Year 2024—by releasing a new video for the track “Velvet Chains.” The visual, created by Dronicon Films, aligns with the album’s striking balance of melancholic and heavy elements, and the song itself underscores the musical variety the band explores on the record.

“Shining”, produced by Dan Lancaster and released in October 2024, marked the band’s ninth studio album, blending doom-laden atmosphere with a more progressive, mainstream edge. The video release follows closely on the heels of the Grammy announcement and serves as a timely reminder of the band’s evolving sonic palette.

In addition to this milestone, Swallow the Sun recently performed as part of their “Between Two Worlds – 25th Anniversary Show” at Helsinki Festival on August 28th, where they highlighted both their darkest and brightest material in a special one-night set.

They’re also continuing to take “Shining” on the road, with upcoming dates in Japan supporting My Dying Bride, a UK headline tour in December, and their first ever Australian stint beginning January 2026.
