Sunniva unleashes new single “Mercurial Bloodstreams” – debut album out this fall

Finnish sludge metal outfit Sunniva has dropped a thunderous new single, “Mercurial Bloodstreams”, offering the first glimpse into their upcoming debut album, “Hypostasis”, slated for release in fall 2025. Fueled by crushing riffs, brooding rhythms, and guttural vocals, the track dives deep into the darker side of technological progress, challenging conventional ideas of freedom and advancement.

According to the band, “Mercurial Bloodstreams” serves as a statement against blind faith in modern technology. “We’re constantly being sold the dream of freedom, but few actually understand what freedom really is — or if it even exists at all,” they explain.

Founded in 2016, Sunniva draws its name from the Old English word Sunngifu, meaning “gift of the sun.” Their sound is a potent blend of sludge metal, death doom, and post-metal, with sonic influences from acts like Amenra, Neurosis, and Dark Buddha Rising.

Over the years, the band has carved out a distinctively heavy and immersive sound, with past releases such as “The Holy Mountain” (2017), their self-titled EP (2020), and the single “This Reality Only Speaks In Blood” (2018) laying the groundwork for their intense musical identity. Onstage, Sunniva has gained a reputation for delivering deeply atmospheric and emotionally charged performances.
