During the 54th annual Juno Awards, the Canadian punk rock legends Sum 41 will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, one of the major announcements recently made by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS). TD Bank Group, the primary sponsor of Juno, will do this at a special presentation and performance. After 27 years of recording together, the Grammy-nominated band announced their breakup earlier this year. In March, they published their last album, “Heaven :x: Hell,” which was praised by Kerrang!, Dork, NME, and others. Over the past several weeks, the band’s popular singles “Dopamine” and “Landmines” from the album have been widely played on radio and have peaked at number one on the Mediabase Alternative charts. In 1978, CARAS created the Canadian Music Hall of Fame to honor musicians who have influenced Canadian music both domestically and internationally. The Canadian music legends Deborah Cox, Alanis Morissette, Barenaked Ladies, Jann Arden, Joni Mitchell, K.D. Lang, Leonard Cohen, Nickelback, Neil Young, Oscar Peterson, Rush, The Guess Who, The Tragically Hip, Sarah McLachlan, and Shania Twain are just a few of the many genres that Sum 41 will join. The National Music Centre, located inside Calgary’s Studio Bell, is the permanent home of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
We’re excited to be back at the Junos and to receive this recognition. We’ve come so far as a band since we first started and we look forward to celebrating in Vancouver with our fans and fellow Canadian artists.
