UK alt-metal risers Split Chain are back with another taste of what’s to come on their highly anticipated debut album. The Bristol-based five-piece has just released a brand new single titled “Who Am I?”, the fourth track revealed so far from their upcoming full-length “motionblur”, due out July 11th via Epitaph Records.
“Who Am I?” dives deep into themes of imposter syndrome and self-doubt, capturing the internal struggles the band members have faced while rising through the ranks of the alternative scene. Vocalist Bert Martinez-Cowles describes the track as deeply personal and meaningful to everyone in the band.
Their debut album “motionblur” is framed as a coming-of-age story, reflecting the messy contradictions of youth — anxiety, joy, pain, and the journey of self-discovery. Musically, the record blends the dreamy textures of shoegaze with the raw aggression of nu-metal, grunge, and post-hardcore, creating a sound the band dubs “dreamo.”
Formed in 2023 among a group of close friends, Split Chain began without lofty ambitions. It all started when bassist Tom Davies and vocalist Bert Martinez-Cowles started writing songs together. Soon, guitarists Jake Reid and Oli Bowles joined the fold, along with drummer Aaron Black. From there, the band’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric — they’ve already toured the US with Silverstein and Thursday, and played major festivals like Download and Outbreak.
