SoundScars project is based on the idea that different forms of art leave marks on our souls. As we listen to a song or a band for the first time, we are already transformed; the “sound scars” from everything we hear begin to appear and change us forever.
This statement can be interpreted in many ways: not only is the listener transformed, but the composer himself is born out of his own musical metamorphosis after feeling, deep within, the strength of all his scars.
Within this context, the project’s second album is titled “My Scars”, where Rubem Barreto presents some of his own scars and major influences. It’s a compilation of non-obvious reinterpretations of songs by renowned artists from the global music scene, with versions oriented toward Heavy Metal and Rock ’n’ Roll.
Continuing the successful partnership begun on the previous album, Celo Oliveira (Kolera Studio) once again signs the production, having actively participated in many of the arrangements alongside Rubem. The idea was to let the scars surface and manifest themselves through arrangements, solos, and tones—often quite different from the originals.
This is definitely not a simple collection of covers, but rather a tribute, in true SoundScars style, to the artists who made a difference in Rubem’s musical formation. Just like their debut album “Legacies”(2024), “My Scars” once again brings a bold concept, featuring 12 guest vocalists for the 12 tracks that make up the album.
Among the very special guests are Anna Porreca (ex-Lynx the Revenge), Carina Oliveira (ex-Soulrun), Gabby Vessoni (Fleesh), Gui de Siervi, Lorena Tato (ex-Dark Tower), Hanna Paulino (Shamangra), Renato Trevas (Azul Limão), Lisa Nascimento (ex-Unfaith), Zaira Marques (Zaira Band), Rox Pinheiro, Gus Monsanto, and Thiago Millores.
This work is dedicated to friend and singer Lisa Nascimento, who left us just a few weeks after recording her part. In Rubem Barreto’s words: “Lisa, wherever you are, your legacy is eternal. The spirit carries on…”
