Sons of Cream announce debut album ‘Half And Half’ via Marshall Records

Marshall Records proudly announces ‘Half and Half’, the debut album from Sons of Cream coming 15 January 2027. The exciting new power trio featuring Malcolm Bruce, Kofi Baker and Rob Johnson will combine classic Cream favourites with brand new original material as the album captures the spirit of one of rock’s most influential bands while establishing a bold new identity of its own.

Featuring the sons of legendary Cream members Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker, alongside guitarist and vocalist Rob Johnson, whose playing channels the creativity and virtuosity that helped define Cream‘s original sound, Sons of Cream are far more than a celebration of the past. Recorded at Marshall Studio within the world-famous Marshall Amplification factory in Milton Keynes, ‘Half and Half’ balances the band’s remarkable musical lineage with an adventurous approach to songwriting and performance.

Appropriately titled ‘Half and Half’, the album is split evenly between reimagined Cream classics and brand-new original compositions. The album campaign launches with a double single featuring the band’s original track “Strange Vibrations” alongside a fresh interpretation of the Cream classic “Tales of Brave Ulysses“, perfectly encapsulating the record’s central idea of honouring the past while embracing the future. Across twelve tracks, Sons of Cream present six legendary songs from the Cream catalogue alongside six new compositions, showcasing both their musical heritage and their own creative evolution.

Released ahead of the album, the double single offers listeners a first taste of both sides of the ‘Half and Half’ concept. “Strange Vibrations”, written by Malcolm Bruce, captures the band’s contemporary songwriting approach, while “Tales of Brave Ulysses” revisits one of Cream‘s most celebrated recordings through the unique perspective of a new generation of musicians connected to the band’s remarkable legacy.

Speaking about the album, Malcolm Bruce explains: “We came up with the idea of ‘Half and Half’, simultaneously looking back and paying respect to the tradition that we come from as well as taking steps as a band to write and record new material. We didn’t want to make a ‘retro’ record. Even with the Cream songs we wanted to put our own stamp on the material, not play it note for note like a tribute band.”

He continues: “We are not playing it safe, copying a pre-existing model or style. That is always a risk, but as a creative choice it’s exciting to let it all hang out. As a starting point for growth.”

Recorded at Marshall Studio, the album captures the chemistry that has already earned Sons of Cream a devoted following throughout the United States. Produced by Malcolm Bruce, with additional production from Rob Johnson, Kofi Baker, Adam Beer and Ollie Brightman, the record was mixed by Chris Sheldon and mastered by Christian Wright at Abbey Road Studios.

Reflecting on the recording process, Rob Johnson says: “It was an excellent experience making the Sons of Cream debut, both working with Malcolm and Kofi but also having two top tier engineers in Adam and Ollie. It was great to have spontaneous moments of tracking much of the material together but also the time and freedom to finesse the overdubs.”

He adds: “The studio itself was an amazing space, big and inviting and beautifully designed. The choice of amps at the studio was unlike anything else I’ve experienced. We were spoiled to be able to choose from so many world class Marshall amps.”
