George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher, the vocalist of death metal band Cannibal Corpse, is known not only for his work in the metal world but also as an active World of Warcraft player. Fisher has spoken openly about his love for the game, including a tattoo relating to the game on his arm.

Fisher’s open WoW fandom has also earned him recognition from the game’s developer, Blizzard Entertainment. Fisher’s stage name was used to name a character in the game, ‘Gorge The Corpsegrinder’.

Now, however, some fans of the game have called for the character to be removed, citing comments made by Fisher in public in 2007, which have been accused of homophobia. In an interview, Fisher frequently used offensive terms against homosexuals in relation to some of the game’s characters.

“So when is Blizzard going to remove Gorge the Corpsegrinder, character named after prominent Horde player who threw homophobic ableist slurs and death threats to Alliance/Night Elf players on the BlizzCon stage?”, one player writes in Twitter.
