Solid, strong and sparkling – review of King Kraken’s second album “March of the Gods”

Author Benedetta Baldin - 9.4.2025

I know that technically 2025 is the Year of the Snake according to the Chinese calendar, but I personally beg to differ. 2025 is rightfully the Year of the Kraken, and you’ll soon find out why. King Kraken, a British heavy metal band, is set to release their second album “March of the Gods” on April 18th, and therefore take command of the agenda.

What a solid group King Kraken is. With the rich and powerful vocals of Mark Donoghue, refined drums of Richard Lee Mears, (finally) a present bass player that is Karl Meyer, the band couldn’t be more balanced than it is. And of course, let’s not forget rhythm guitarist Pete Rose and lead guitarist Adam Healey, who hold the rhythmic section dignitously.

The production, mixing and mastering are very well done, and as I wrote earlier, the bass has its righteous space in the mixing! It was a very pleasurable listening experience, at least in my opinion. The tracks are very homogeneous, but don’t think that this is a fault of the album. My favorite one has to be “Hero“, where you can listen to how much versatile Donoghue on vocals is.

But the real surprise of the album are the two closing tracks, “Chainsaw Saviour” and “Under the Sun“, that showcase why this band is going to carve their path into the music industry and in our hearts, too. The talent is there, the road is ready, we just have to wait and join the Kraken.

So remember to mark your calendars for April 18th, because if you enjoy heavy metal in its purest form, you will surely like King Kraken. And if you live or travel to the United Kingdom, you can also have the opportunity to see the band perform right in front of your eyes. Catch the Kraken while you can!
