The music video for Nirvana‘s iconic 1991 hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” which was directed by Samuel Bayer, has now surpassed 2 billion views on YouTube. Back on December 6, 2024, the RIAA in the US certified it as a diamond (10 million units). However, it was also a huge smash right away, going gold in January 1992 and platinum in April of the same year. On June 16, 2009, the video clip was first uploaded to YouTube. It had previously reached one billion views on that platform in December 2019. The song has received 2,440,570,579 plays on Spotify, which also reached one billion plays in June 2021. Burton C. Bell, before gaining success with Fear Factory, was an extra on the production.
