Chicago-based sludge-doom heavyweights Stomach are back with a vengeance. The trio has just dropped a blistering new single, “Get Through Winter”, offering a first taste of their upcoming album “Low Demon”, due out July 18th via Hibernation Release.
Stomach originally started as a duo, featuring John Hoffman — known from Weekend Nachos and Ledge — and Adam Tomlinson, who’s played in bands like Sick/Tired and Sea Of Shit. The project has since evolved into a live trio with the addition of bassist Kirk Syrek, also of Sick/Tired and Exalted.
“Low Demon” follows their 2022 debut “Parasite” and brings five bone-crushing tracks that span over 40 minutes. The album was recorded by Hoffman at The Pit II studio in Geneva, Illinois, and mixed and mastered by Will Killingsworth (whose credits include The Body, Magrudergrind, and Fugitive) at Dead Air Studios.
Speaking about the new single, Hoffman revealed that “Get Through Winter” dives into the kind of seasonal depression that’s hard to put into words. He described the paralyzing mental freeze brought on by Chicago’s bitter winters — a chemical imbalance that seems to pause life itself until the thaw of spring. Despite the deep loathing he feels for the place, he admits he’ll likely always live there.
