UK doom trio Slomatics have returned with “Phantom Castle Warning”, a massive new single that not only showcases the band’s signature cosmic doom but also signals the arrival of their upcoming album “Atomicult”, set for release on September 12th through Majestic Mountain Records.
The Belfast trio—stalwarts of the heavy underground for nearly two decades—continue to push their sound into new galaxies. Since 2004, Slomatics have become known for their towering riffs, space-themed atmospheres, and collaborations with bands like Conan, Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard, and Domkraft. With seven full-lengths and countless splits behind them, they now prepare to unleash their eighth album.
“Phantom Castle Warning” is the first taste of “Atomicult”, which the band describes as a continuation of the sonic journey they began with “Strontium Fields”. The new record is intended to serve as a meditation on existential crises—or simply the soundtrack to your next train ride, hangout, or moment of quiet. Drawing on everything from blown-out fuzz and Matamps to cosmic Mellotrons and string arrangements, “Atomicult” is set to represent the full range of what Slomatics do best—pushing their sound to its furthest, heaviest edges.
The album was recorded with Rocky O’Reilly at Start Together Studios in Belfast, mastered by James Plotkin (Conan, Thou), and features artwork by Ryan Lesser. Two stunning vinyl variants are available for preorder: the Event Horizon Black Edition (tri-color with black and white splatter, limited to 250) and the Emergent Universe Purple Edition (color-in-color with burgundy and blue splatter, also limited to 250). Fans can grab both editions—along with merch bundles and test pressings—via the Majestic Mountain Records shop and the band’s own website.
“Phantom Castle Warning” delivers everything fans love about Slomatics: earth-rattling tones, hypnotic pacing, and a thick, otherworldly atmosphere. Whether you’re firing up an amp, starting your spaceship, or just zoning out with headphones, the message is clear: heed the warning—something massive is coming.
