Slipknot guitarist Jim Root spoke candidly about the band’s creative state during an interview at their London O2 Arena show last December. While fans eagerly await a follow-up to 2022’s “The End, So Far,” Root admitted to Guitar Interactive that crafting new material isn’t actively happening at the moment.
“To be honest, we’ve been touring so extensively since Eloy Casagrande joined the band that my creative well is practically dry,” Root explained. “There’s also a substantial amount of music written during the pandemic period that I’ve lost interest in. I think everyone else in the band feels similarly—like we should just shelve all that material and make a completely fresh start.“
Root emphasized his desire to complete their touring commitments and take at least a month-long break to properly reset mentally. “When I naturally find myself gravitating toward my home studio to work on riffs, that’s when I’ll know it’s time to begin the creative process again,” he noted.
As a reminder, Slipknot revealed last year that they recorded a track titled “Long May You Die” during early sessions with Casagrande, but regarding a full-length album, it appears fans will need to exercise patience for the foreseeable future.
