It appears that Slipknot‘s recent lineup addition mystery may have been unveiled prematurely, thanks to a slip-up on their teaser website, youcantkillme.com. The site, which has been serving as a promotional tool for the band’s 25th anniversary of their 1999 self-titled album, inadvertently revealed more than intended due to some naming mishaps in its assets.
Recently, the website underwent a nostalgic redesign, reminiscent of early internet aesthetics, with a touch of modernity. However, hidden within this throwback facade were hints that not only confirmed the identity of the band’s new drummer but also hinted at the replacement for Craig “133” Jones, who departed last year.
According to eagle-eyed fans on Reddit, a teaser video on the site contained images named after all members of the band, including references to ‘Eloy’ and ‘Jeff’. It’s widely believed that ‘Eloy’ indicates the addition of ex-Sepultura drummer Eloy Casagrande to Slipknot’s lineup. However, the mention of ‘Jeff’ has sparked speculation among fans. Some speculate that Jeff Karnowski, who previously played bass alongside Slipknot’s percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan in Dirty Little Rabbits, might be Jones’ replacement.
Notably, another former member of Dirty Little Rabbits, Michael Pfaff, replaced Chris Fehn in Slipknot in 2019, and he remains with the band today as ‘Tortilla Man’. While ‘Jeff’s’ identity remains unconfirmed, the mention of ‘Eloy’ strongly suggests that he is indeed Slipknot‘s new drummer.
However, there’s also the possibility that this revelation is a deliberate misdirection. Slipknot has a history of cryptic maneuvers when it comes to revealing new members, so nothing is certain until officially confirmed.
Earlier this month, youcantkillme.com made an appearance on a cryptic Slipknot billboard near the Coachella Festival in Indio, CA. With the band scheduled to play their first show since parting ways with drummer Jay Weinberg last November at the ‘Sick New World’ festival in Las Vegas on Saturday, April 27th, more information may emerge soon.
