Iowa’s masked metal giants Slipknot have unveiled the official 25th anniversary edition of their historic 1999 self-titled album, after releasing a complex teaser website and leaving numerous clues on their social media accounts. The record launched the band to widespread fame and caused them to burst into the scene. Later, in late January 2000, it achieved gold status in the US, and a few months later, in May 2000, it received a platinum certification. The band honored their current double platinum status with a lengthy 25th anniversary tour for a large portion of last year.
This edition, which includes 59 recordings dating back to the album’s initial Indigo Ranch demos under producer Ross Robinson (Korn, Glassjaw), is packaged in a brand-new “blood-filled vinyl” box set. It costs $250 and is limited to 100 pieces worldwide; it seems to have sold out quickly. Fans are also dissatisfied with the way the release was managed, since the teaser website itself eventually failed to reveal the release plans due to the overwhelming amount of fan expectation. In addition, that collection includes 40 previously unreleased rarities, live versions, and alternate mixes. Nine new Slipknot collector photo cards are included in the set’s track listings. But worry not, since at 3:00 PM EST, 12:00 PM PST, 8:00 PM UK time, and 9:00 PM EU time of today, 1,899 more copies of the box set will be available.
