The singer of the Russian deathcore group Slaughter To Prevail, Alex Terrible, talked about his pride in his Russian ancestry on social media this morning on March 31st. Early in 2022, when Russia’s invasion of Ukraine fundamentally altered the public’s opinion of Russia, the band found itself in a bit of a bind. Celebrations of Russian culture in Western countries continue to be somewhat of a touchy subject because the war in Ukraine is still going on years later, and geopolitical relations between Russia and other nations are still tense. Terrible, who has lived in Florida in recent years, has no qualms about glorifying his homeland in public; as recently as this year, he wore a Russian flag on stage.

I’m a man of peace. I believe that everyone born on this earth is a citizen of the world. But each has his own country, his own culture, his own story. Everyone has a good story and a bad one, and whatever it is, you have to respect it. People ain’t perfect but what I do is play music around the world in my mother tongue fucking love it. And I don’t do it to earn some respect from my compatriots, like look what a patriot I am. I’m not a patriot ! I don’t need such a fucking opinion ! I do it because I am Russian and I am proud to be Russian. No matter where I am. I want to live where I want. I want to travel, I fucking love America. But Russia is my home, beloved home. With their history, with their people, with their wounds and victories. I’m with you Russia. Forever and ever
