New York brutal death metal band Skinless have completed the writing process for their next studio album. The record is set to follow 2018’s “Savagery”, bringing the group a significant step closer to ending a lengthy gap between full-length releases.
In a new update shared on October 21 and reported by ThePRP, the band said the songs were finished, joking that their status as a “dad metal” outfit means they have to work around whatever free time they can find. An album title and artwork have already been prepared.
Longtime label Relapse Records is once again involved in the project. The band is now looking into studio time for early 2027, with a release later in the year considered possible. Those plans remain provisional: Skinless have not announced confirmed recording dates or a release schedule.
The update represents a change from expectations raised in late 2025, when the group had discussed recording its seventh album during 2026. The writing is now complete, but recording appears likely to take place later than initially anticipated.
Alongside the album news, Skinless encouraged fans to watch “Deathgasm 2”, noting that their music appears on the film’s soundtrack and that the band’s imagery can be spotted in the movie. For now, however, there is no new single to hear and no firm release date.
Skinless released “Savagery” through Relapse in 2018. Their return to the studio would mark the next major step toward a long-awaited seventh full-length.
The musical entity Skinless was established in South Glens Falls, New York, through the collaboration of Ryan Wade and Noah Carpenter. Following a series of relocations across several New York municipalities, the ensemble ultimately established its base in Troy, New York.
Skinless gained recognition for its vigorous live presentations and a lyrical amalgamation of apocalyptic cynicism and comedic elements. This thematic approach occasionally extends to a satirical commentary on prominent death metal lyrical tropes and the genre as a whole, inspired by Carcass and Cannibal Corpse.
Such thematic inclinations are exemplified in tracks like “The Optimist,” which addresses societal decay, and “Tug of War Intestines,” which graphically portrays juveniles engaging in recreational activities with a surgical patient’s viscera.
The ensemble has, on occasion, integrated a performer designated as the “Skinless Girl” into their live shows. This involvement typically entails simulated physical distress and artificial sanguineous application during the band’s performance.
In the nascent stages of their career, Skinless distributed elongated foam implements to audience members. These items, intended for reciprocal physical engagement, were colloquially referred to as “The Logs of Brutality.”
