Following accusations of inappropriate behavior during last week’s event, Chris Monroy, the guitarist and vocalist for Skeletal Remains, has reportedly been barred from future appearances on the 70000TONS Of Metal cruise, as per Lambgoat. Several social media and Reddit posts from attendees claim that Monroy was drunk during the trip and groped a number of women without their permission. Online, a number of eyewitness accounts describing distinct situations have surfaced. Attendee posts further claim that festival employees stepped in, limiting Monroy’s freedom of movement for the rest of the cruise and even locking him in his cabin to stop more problems. As of this writing, neither Monroy nor the management of Skeletal Remains nor 70000TONS Of Metal have released an official statement in response to the accusations.
The band was formed in May 2011 under the name Anthropophagy by guitarist and vocalist Chris Monroy, guitarist Mike De La O, and drummer Chris Reyes. In June 2011, the band went into the studio to record the demo “Desolate Isolation”, which included three songs and a cover of Pestilence‘s “Chronic Infection”. During the recording, Mike De La O left the band, so in addition to Monroy, drummer Reyes recorded the missing guitar tracks. After the release, Adrius Marquez joined the band as bassist and Adrian Obregon as new guitarist, after which the band was renamed Skeletal Remains.
In November 2012, the band released their first album “Beyond the Flesh” via FDA Rekotz/Soulfood and played at several festivals in Europe in July and August of the following year. In August 2015, the band released their second album, “Condemned to Misery”. With their third album, “Devouring Mortality”, released in April 2018, the band achieved their first entry in the German album charts, where the album reached number 96. In 2022, the band was added to the line-up of the Killfest festival. They subsequently signed with Century Media Records to release the album “Fragments of the Ageless” in 2024.
