Six Feet Under share “Mutilated Corpse in the Woods” single ahead of “Next to Die”

American death metal veterans Six Feet Under have dropped a lyric video for “Mutilated Corpse in the Woods,” the latest single from their upcoming fifteenth album, “Next to Die.” Metal Blade Records releases the record on April 24, 2026.

Guitarist Jack Owen traces the song back to a chance encounter in an antique store. His wife found a rutilated quartz pendant, and that name alone sparked the track’s title and lyrical direction. The verses draw from a true crime case in which an attacker tied a woman to a tree and slit her throat. She survived in real life, but the song takes the story in a darker direction.

“Next to Die” follows 2024’s “Killing for Revenge” and marks the third album from Barnes and Owen since their 2017 reunion. Owen produced the record alongside vocalist Chris Barnes. Mark Lewis of MRL Studios in Nashville then mixed and mastered it. Barnes tracked his vocals at Criteria Recording Studios in Miami, where he has recorded the majority of his Six Feet Under vocal work.

The album splits into two distinct halves. Owen built the death metal side first, then Barnes pushed for a second half rooted in the groove tempos of the band’s early catalog. Barnes named the record after the track “Next to Die,” describing it as the song that best captures the lyrical ideas across the full album.

Six Feet Under has also confirmed two headline tours. The European run with Embryonic Autopsy kicks off June 3 in Gdańsk. The North American tour with Kataklysm and Wormhole runs July 8 through August 11. Barnes calls it a chance to play Canada for the first time in decades.
